WHAT’S NEW
City Island Underpass
This project is to widen and replace the Market Street Bridge Underpass on the City Island. Work began in late July on this project to replace the structure on the City Island that carries Market Street over the underpass that connects the parking lots to the north and south of the Market Street Bridge. The existing bridge over the underpass was built in 1934. The new bridge structure will be longer-75 ft instead of 24 ft. The additional length will allow for a wider underpass.

State Street Promenade
The Project involves comprehensive streetscape improvements to the one and two hundred blocks of State Street in Harrisburg, PA, one of the most significant, historic and aesthetically important boulevards in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, which links the Pennsylvania State Capitol Building and Capitol Complex to Front Street, Kunkel Plaza and Riverfront Park.
Traffic Signal Improvement Project
The Office of the City Engineer applied for and received Federal funding to replace twenty-three (23) traffic signals, over the next five years. The signals to be replaced will be along the Maclay Street, Market Street, 6th, 13th, and 17th Street Corridors. The 6th, 13th, and 17th Street Corridors have been combined into one project. The proposed signals will provide improved visibility and safety for both vehicular and pedestrian traffic. The total cost for the proposed upgrades will exceed four million dollars ($4,000,000). This Project is primarily the replacement and upgrade of traffic signal equipment at 23 intersections and will not involve physical improvements to the roadway except for minor curb radii and drainage improvements.
Mulberry Street Bridge
his Project involves the rehabilitation of the Mulberry Street Ramp over South Tenth Street and Paxton Creek, which provides access to the Mulberry Street Viaduct from Cameron Street. The project also includes the patching of the sidewalk concrete of the main spans. The Mulberry Street Viaduct, including the ramp, has been determined eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. The Viaduct, constructed between 1907 and 1909 by the Board of Public Works of Harrisburg, carries Mulberry Street (S.R. 3012) over Cameron Street (S.R. 2030), South Tenth Street, Paxton Creek and the Norfolk Southern and Amtrak’s rail yard, to connect midtown Harrisburg to the community of Mount Pleasant (Allison Hill). This project is being sponsored by the City of Harrisburg in cooperation with the Pennsylvania Department Transportation, District 8-0. The Contractor for this project, Panoni , was given a notice to proceed on (date), with an estimated completion date around Thanksgiving.
