Harrisburg Parks Partnership Membership Information Online
The City of Harrisburg is delighted to endorse the Harrisburg Parks Partnership Program and encourages you to consider becoming a member. Membership in the Parks Partnership allows for enhanced recreational activities and privileges at city-conducted recreational programs and events, and helps to provide funding for on-going parks improvements.
About the Department of Parks & Recreation
The City of Harrisburg’s Department of Parks and Recreation has many things to offer residents and visitors alike. With this site we hope to give all visitors a convenient interface with the Department, its offices and bureaus, and the services we provide and events we produce.
This Department performs a multitude of functions that benefit the community including: providing summer programming for over seventeen recreational sites; maintaining and staffing two City Pools, one beach facility; and 27 parks and playgrounds that total over 450 acres; administering over 2000 days of park rentals; planning, producing or assisting in producing over 200 special events annually; publishing and mailing the Harrisburg City Calendar, an entertainment and City news publication; maintaining more than 50,000 urban shade trees; and overseeing all construction activities ranging from restoration of historically significant structures and formal gardens to rehabilitation of existing recreational facilities and the creation of new facilities. In addition, our Park Ranger Corp patrols our park system on a 24 hour per day 7 day a week basis. To date, more than $64 million dollars have been spent on Harrisburg’s Park System under Mayor Reed’s Parks Improvement Program.
