March 31, 2003 — Walnut Street Steam Heat Plant Renamed In Honor Of Late Founder Bruce Mangione
Mayor Stephen R. Reed today conducted dedication services for the newly renamed Bruce Mangione Steam Plant at the Harrisburg Energy Center at 10th and Walnut Streets in the city’s Paxton Commons area. Mangione was the founder and first President of the former Harrisburg Steam Works, which began operating the Century-old city heating system in 1985, and continues operating today under new owners NRG Energy Inc.

March 28, 2003 — May 8 Roller Skating Party To Benefit Free Reservoir Park

Mayor Stephen R. Reed today announced that a youth roller skating party will be held on May 8 at the Star Recreation Center, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and will benefit the extensive schedule of free summer concerts slated for this summer at the newly renamed and restored Levitt Performing Arts Pavilion in Reservoir Park. Each $10 ticket includes transportation to and from the roller rink from select city school buildings, admission to the rink, skate rental, pizza and soda, prizes and giveaways.

City and area residents who dream of owning, operating or expanding their own small business can benefit from the nationally renowned CORE-FOUR business planning course being offered by the Mayor’s Office of Economic Development and the Community First Fund(CFF), Mayor Stephen R. Reed announced today. The 8-week long course begins May 6 and will be taught by noted midstate financial expert and CFF Capital Region Director John Sider and other financial, tax, insurance and small business professionals, and is designed to provide budding entrepreneurs with the skills, knowledge and understanding of small business operations and dynamics.

March 19, 2003 — Renowned Irish Musical Group ‘Ceili Rain’ To Conduct Workshops In City Schools; Friday Night Concert At Whitaker Ctr. Benefits City Schools
Harrisburg city school students will have a unique opportunity to see and learn from one of the top Irish bands in the world, Mayor Stephen R. Reed said today in announcing the visit to Harrisburg this week by the renowned ‘Ceili Rain’. The group will conduct workshops and concerts for city school students today through Friday, and wrap up their city visit with a benefit concert at the Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts on Friday night. Proceeds will benefit the Harrisburg School District’s arts and music programs.

March 10, 2003 — Second Downtown Improvement District Terminated, Voluntary Improvement Association In Smaller District Formed
Mayor Stephen R. Reed today announced that the second Downtown Improvement District (DID II) is being terminated and that, in its place, an informal voluntary improvement group is being formed in a smaller portio of what was once the DID II area. All monies collected from DID II property owners last year will be returned to them with whatever interest had been earned from their investment.
