CLEAN-UP DRIVE OF ILLEGALLY DUMPED DEBRIS CONTINUES

Mayor Stephen R. Reed today reported the arrest of a Lemoyne man on midsdemeanor charges related to illegally dumping trash and debris in the City. It is the defendant’s second arrest on the same charge.

Mark David Ruggiero, 44, of 821 Park Street, Apt. 1 of Lemoyne, has been arrested by city police for dumping materials in the rear of a property in the 600 block of South 19th Street. He was cited for doing the same thing previously. Under state law, a second offense is upgraded to a misdemeanor charge.

The resident of the affected address came home from work and found the suspect dumping at the property.

“Illegal dumping continues to be a vexing and taxing problem, involving both non-resident and resident citizens and businesses. City crews, as of the end of July, have removed 611,080 pounds of illegally dumped items this year. It remains perplexing why anyone would trash someone else’s or their own community. The costs divert resources from other needed municipal services and serves to blight a neighborhood. It is inexcusable and we do not tolerate it,” Reed said.

Reed reminded that the city offers a $250 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of illegal dumpers. Citizens can call 255.3131 to report. “There are plenty of ways to get rid of debris. Illegal dumping is simply and attempt to avoid the cost and hoist the expense onto the rest of the average taxpayers of this City. It is an outrage.”
