MAYOR REED ANNOUNCES FIRST ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL JAZZ FESTIVALMayor Reed today announced plans for the City’s First Annual International Jazz Festival, to be held August 11th and 12th, 2007, at an outdoor stage in the 400 block of Walnut Street. The International Jazz Festival is being coordinated by 405 Jazz, an upscale, jazz-oriented restaurant and tavern located at 405 Walnut Street, and will include performances by as many as 35 internationally-renowned jazz musicians. Artists from Italy, the United Kingdom, and North and South America will be performing. The festivities begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 11 and at noon on Sunday, Aug. 12, with both sessions lasting into the night. Mayor Reed said, “We are delighted to host the first International Jazz Festival in Harrisburg. This event will bring outstanding performers together from across the world to display their talents. Jazz music is clearly a favorite in the midstate, as is evidenced by the success of the Central PA Friends of Jazz and their annual music festival, as well as the extensive amount of free jazz offerings available almost every night of the week in downtown. Just this past weekend, more than 5,000 jazz aficionados packed the Levitt Pavilion in Reservoir Park for our annual Jazz Under The Stars concert, which was the largest crowd ever for this event. This strong base of support is a ready audience which we think will be very pleased with this newest, city-based music festival, which we expect will become an annual event here, adding to what is already an extensive city special events calendar.” Performers will include three-time Grammy award nominated Acoustic Alchemy of Britain, Antonio Onorato of Italy, Ze’ Luis of Brazil, Tuck & Patty of California, and local favorite Joanna Pascale, among many others. “The International Jazz Festival, with such well-known and talented performers, will also be a wonderful addition to Harrisburg’s already-thriving downtown nightlife,” said Mayor Reed. Reed said tickets for the event are reasonably priced and limited to only 600, with advance-purchase single day passes costing $40, and only $75 for both days. VIP tickets for both days are also available for only $5 more, or $80.00 per day, with seating reserved in the first three rows. “These are very good prices for the quality and range of entertainment that will be presented,” said the Mayor. The First Annual International Jazz Festival was made possible, in part, by the following sponsors: 405 Jazz, VQC Designs, Geiger Promotional Products, The PA Chamber of Business and Industry, Smooth Jazz 92.7 FM, Net Pay Payroll Services, Appalachian Brewing Company, PCI Insurance, Inc., Insurance Coalition, Inc., Harrisburg Hello, and Crowne Plaza Harrisburg.
