WADDELL & REED USO TOUR TRUCK VISITS HARRISBURG CITY ISLAND

Mayor Stephen R. Reed today kicked-off the Waddell & Reed USO Tour stop at Harrisburg City Island, where participants could provide care packages to U.S. troops overseas as part of the United Service Organization’s Operation USO Care Package program. Harrisburg was one of the 70 communities chosen by Waddell & Reed Financial Services for its nationwide USO tour.

Waddell & Reed Financial Services, one of the longest-standing mutual fund and financial planning firms in the country, celebrates its 70th anniversary this year. To mark this anniversary, Waddell & Reed executives chose to partner with the USO by creating a specially-equipped Waddell & Reed USO truck and by funding its national tour. The Waddell & Reed truck will travel over 30,000 miles this year to promote our troops and provide care packages.

Mayor Reed said that the Waddell & Reed truck includes computer kiosks which offer retirement planning calculators, video screens, a sound system, and hospitality amenities. Participants can see what Waddell & Reed offers while helping U.S. troops at the same time.

Henry J. Hermann, CEO of Waddell & Reed Financial, Inc., said, “This is a unique way for us to reach out to our advisors, clients and communities to thank them, remind them how important financial planning is to their lives and, especially, to join with them in saluting our troops.”

Mayor Reed indicated that Waddell & Reed’s care packages cost $25.00 but hold a value of between $50 and $75, depending on the package. Mayor Reed said, “We are delighted that Waddell & Reed has chosen Harrisburg as one of its many visits throughout the country. There is arguably no better way to celebrate this occasion than to support our troops while, at the same time, spreading the word about the many services offered by Waddell & Reed. Donating $25.00 to this cause will go a long way towards bolstering troop morale overseas.” The goal is to purchase over 10,000 care packages over the course of the year.

Henry Herrmann said, “As we mark our 70th year, we couldn’t think of a better way to acknowledge our anniversary than to spend time with the people and in the places that make Waddell & Reed what it is today.” Waddell & Reed has a local office on Crums Mill Road in Lower Paxton Township.
