RESCHEDULED BLACK HISTORY ENRICHMENT SERIES EVENT TO TAKE PLACE THIS WEEKEND

Harrisburg, PA – Mayor Stephen R. Reed today said the City of Harrisburg’s Department of Parks and Recreation’s Black History Month Tours and Program, originally scheduled for Saturday, February 23, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at The National Civil War Museum, will take place this Saturday, April 5th, 2008, from 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the same location.

Reed said the celebration includes free museum tours, the opportunity to meet several living-history recreators, the presentation of multiple Black History Month Art Competition Awards and the KUUMBA Ensemble’s "Shoe Walking" dramatic and musical program. The event is free to the public.

The "Shoe Walking" performance is a riveting portrayal of African-American heroes that spans across 300 years of history. It’s a powerful tribute that interweaves gospel music, storytelling, modern dance and dramatic interpretation to create a historical journey through the eras of Black History.

For more information on the event, contact the City’s Department of Parks and Recreation at (717) 255-3020.
