TWO CITY JUVENILES CHARGED IN CONNECTION WITH ARSON

Harrisburg, PA – Mayor Stephen R. Reed today said that two juveniles have been charged in connection with an arson fire that occurred on Wednesday, April 9, 2008, in an outbuilding behind an apartment complex on Carey Street in the City.

Reed said a 15-year-old juvenile from the 2300 block of Derry Street and a 16-year-old juvenile from the 1400 block of State Street were each charged with one count of arson in connection with the incident.

The Mayor said the incident, which occurred during school hours but off school property, began when the individuals set fire to newspapers and a shopping cart that were located within the outbuilding. He said the fires were contained to the inside of the outbuilding and were quickly extinguished by the Fire Bureau.

Reed said that both of the juveniles have been released to their parents and are awaiting juvenile court dates.
