INDIVIDUAL SHOT AFTER ALLEGED ATTEMPTED ROBBERY

Harrisburg, PA – Mayor Stephen R. Reed said today that one individual suffered a gunshot wound after what is being considered a robbery attempt.

Reed said the victim, a 26-year-old resident of the 1000 block of Melrose Street, suffered a gunshot wound to the right ankle. The victim was transported by emergency services to a local hospital where he is currently being treated for those injuries.

The Mayor said officers were patrolling the area of the 2400 block of North 6th Street around 10:40 a.m. when they heard a single gun shot. The officers looked up the street and immediately saw the victim lying on the ground east of the 2400 block of North 6th Street. The victim immediately got up and limped to a nearby convenience store.

Reed said an on-scene interview with the victim indicated that the victim was sitting on the steps of a vacant house across the street when a subject approached him and a friend and demanded money. When the victim said he had nothing of value on his person, he was allegedly shot once in the ankle. The suspect then fled the area on foot.

The Mayor said Harrisburg Police are currently investigating the incident and are interviewing witnesses. He said police are currently searching for a dark-skinned black male wearing a white tank top and brown shorts. The suspect is to be around 5’4’’ in height and in his late-teens or early-20’s.

Anyone with information on this incident is urged to confidentially call Harrisburg Police at 255-3131.
