SUSPECT APPREHENDED AFTER ATTEMPTED ROBBERY
Harrisburg, PA Mayor Stephen R. Reed today said that a suspect has been apprehended by Harrisburg Police after a robbery attempt that occurred on Thursday, July 17, at 6:01 p.m. in the 200 block of Hamilton Street in the Uptown.
Reed said police were called to the location for an unknown problem. Upon arrival, police immediately came in contact with Carrol W. Pendleton, 51, of no fixed address, who was located outside a convenience store on that block. Pendleton was holding a box cutter upon police arrival and was immediately ordered by police to drop the knife and get on the ground.
After repeated attempts to subdue the suspect, the individual began walking away from police. A K9 unit that had responded to the call again ordered the suspect to stop fleeing. When the suspect continued walking, the K9 was released and the subject was quickly apprehended by the K9 officer.
Upon investigating the incident, police learned that Pendleton was caught allegedly trying to steal items from the store by the store owner. Pendleton allegedly attempted to assault the store owner as he fled the store.
Reed said Pendleton has been charged with robbery, resisting arrest and possession of instruments of a crime. He has been remanded to Dauphin County Prison in lieu of posting bail.
