TWO MAJOR CRIMES REPORTED OVERNIGHT; SEPARATE ARREST MADE

Harrisburg, PA – Mayor Stephen R. Reed today said that two major crimes were reported to Harrisburg Police and he also said that a separate drug-related arrest was made.

Reed said a 22-year-old female City resident reported that she was raped in the area of the 1200 block of Berryhill Street around 10:45 a.m. yesterday. Police were called to a local hospital and spoke with the victim. She indicated she was walking from the Mulberry Street Bridge to S. Cameron Street when a male picked her up and assaulted her. The male suspect allegedly stole money from the victim before making her exit his vehicle.

The suspect was initially described as a black male, between 5’7’’ and 5’8’’, weighing over 200 pounds. He is said to have black hair in small braids and a graying moustache. It is believed the suspect was driving an older model black Mitsubishi. Reed said police have not yet been able to bring the victim in for additional questioning and indicated that no further details will be available until that time.

Reed additionally said a male victim reported that he was robbed of his backpack somewhere near the Harvey Taylor Bridge by an unknown young black male this morning around 5:26 a.m. Reed said no additional details are available but indicated that the incident is being investigated by detectives.

The Mayor asked anyone that may have information on the alleged assault or the alleged robbery to confidentially contact Harrisburg Police at (717) 255-3131.

Reed also said James Nyce, 19, of the 2100 block of Penn Street, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, in connection with an incident that occurred in a park located at N. 4th and Emerald Streets around 6:40 p.m. yesterday. Police were called to the area for a report of drug activity. Upon arrival, police identified Nyce as being in the act of smoking marijuana. He was immediately arrested and charged with the crime.
