MAYOR ANNOUNCES SIGNIFICANT GUN, DRUG, AND UNRELATED ARRESTS

Harrisburg, PA – Mayor Stephen R. Reed today announced a series of significant gun- and drug-related arrests made by Harrisburg Police over the past two weeks and which included the seizure of 14 firearms.

Reed said George Sharp, 16, of the 2500 block of Barkley Lane, and Raymier Haynes, 17, of the 1400 block of Derry Street, were each charged with robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery, in connection with an armed robbery that occurred on Friday, July 18, at 8:33 p.m. in the area of S. 25th and Brookwood Streets. Several victims were assaulted and robbed at gunpoint by three black male individuals in the area. Police canvassed the area and two of the males were soon located and arrested. Sharp has also been charged with carrying a firearm without a license. Both have been charged as adults and have been committed to Dauphin County Prison in lieu of posting bail.

Reed said Justin Taylor, 22, of the 3300 block of N. 4th Street, was charged with carrying a firearm without a license, person not to possess a firearm, possession of instruments of a crime, and multiple drug violations, while in the area of S. 17th and Berryhill Streets on Saturday, July 19, at around 6:40 p.m. A handgun was confiscated by police during the arrest.

Reed said Charles Mitchell, 26, of the 1400 block of S. 13th Street, as well as Maurice Harrison, 24, of the 1000 block of Rolleston Street and Tyrone Hill, 19, of the 500 block of Hetrick Street, were each charged with recklessly endangering another person, discharging of firearm into an occupied structure, and carrying a firearm without a license in connection with a shooting that was reported on Sunday, February 25, 2007, in the 2300 block of Derry Street. Damage was sustained to both a nearby vehicle and a nearby business, but no injuries resulted. Mitchell was also charged with two counts of criminal mischief. Hill and Harrison were also charged with 17 counts each of criminal mischief and Harrison was charged with person not to possess a firearm.

Reed said Tyrale Hill-Price, 18, of the first block of Disbrow Street, and Raymond Hayes, 28, of the 400 block of Crescent Street, were both charged in connection with a shooting that occurred on Friday, April 20, 2007, at 11:42 p.m. in the area of Hummel and Kittatinny Streets. Damage was sustained to a vehicle and a nearby home, but no injuries resulted. Hill-Price was charged with conspiracy to engage in robbery, discharge of a firearm into an occupied structure, and carrying a firearm without a license. Hayes was charged with possession of marijuana and PWI with paraphernalia. A 17-year-old male juvenile was also charged with robbery, conspiracy to engage in robbery, propulsion of missiles into an occupied vehicle, recklessly endangering another person, criminal mischief and carrying a firearm without a license in connection with the incident.

Reed said Donald Barbour, 19, of the 37 Row Hall Manor, and a 17-year-old male juvenile, were both charged with nine counts each of recklessly endangering another person and with one count each of carrying a firearm without a license, in connection with an incident of shots fired that occurred on Thursday, April 26, 2007, at 6:59 p.m. in the area of S. 13th and Kittatinny Streets. Damage was sustained to several vehicles, but no injuries resulted. The juvenile involved was also charged with multiple other firearms violations in connection with the incident.

Reed said Michael Titus, 26, of the 3000 block of Penn Estates in East Stroudsburg, PA, was arrested and charged with burglary in connection with an incident that occurred on Monday, June 16, at 10:59 a.m. in the 1700 block of N. 4th Street, whereby Titus stole an air conditioner window unit from a nearby house.

Reed said James Payne, 27, of the 1800 block of Park Street, was arrested and charged with robbery and conspiracy to engage in robbery, in connection with an incident that occurred on Monday, June 30, at 2:26 p.m. in the 400 block of S. 17th Street. Payne, along with two unidentified actors, pulled up to a victim and robbed him at gunpoint before quickly leaving the scene in a vehicle. Payne was positively identified as the driver of the vehicle and was subsequently arrested.

Reed said Kenneth Thompson, 18, of the 2500 block of Derry Street, and Ricky Sawyers, 20, of the 1700 block of Elm Street, were both arrested and charged with one count each of robbery, conspiracy to engage robbery, aggravated assault, conspiracy to engage in aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person, carrying a firearm without a license, and person not to possess a firearm, in connection with a robbery and shooting that occurred on Saturday, July 5, at 8:44 p.m. in the 40-41 Rows of Hall Manor. A victim was approached by Thompson, Sawyers, and others, and they demanded that the victim give them everything he had. The victim resisted and was assaulted before his property was stolen. The victim was shot in the leg during the assault. A 13-year-old male juvenile was also charged with aggravated assault, robbery, conspiracy to engage in aggravated assault, and conspiracy to engage in robbery, for his involvement in the incident.

Reed said Troy McCraw, 19, of the 900 block of S. 21st Street, was arrested and charged with robbery and weapons law violations in connection with a robbery incident that occurred on Wednesday, July 9, at 12:15 a.m. in the area of River and Walnut Streets. A K9 unit involved in the arrest located and confiscated a handgun that is believed to have been used in the robbery.

Reed said Justin Lee, 18, of the 2400 block of Brookwood Street, was charged with possession of a firearm, former convict not to possess a handgun and two capias warrants, after discarding a handgun upon being approached by officers searching for shooting suspects in the area of 40 Row Hall Manor on Wednesday, July 9, at 8:53 p.m. Lee was observed hiding an object inside of a barbeque grill upon observation of approaching police. The loaded handgun was confiscated by police.

Reed said Terrell Carter, 19, of the 2500 block of Greenwood Street, was arrested on Saturday, July 12, at 6:52 p.m. in the area of N. 17th and Regina Streets. Police were searching for a wanted person in the area and Carter matched the description. Carter was arrested for false ID to law enforcement at that time. A search of his person upon arrest yielded a loaded handgun, marijuana, and a significant amount of cash. Carter was additionally charged with carrying a firearm without a license and multiple drug violations.

Reed said Edward McCreath, 22, of the 1300 block of Rolleston Street, was arrested on Saturday, July 12, at 11:57 p.m. in the 1300 block of Swatara Street, after complaints were received of drug and weapons violations. Police searched the area and located a vehicle and suspect that matched the description given. After the driver pulled the vehicle to the side of the road, a handgun was spotted on the floor of the vehicle by one of the officers. A search of the vehicle yielded a significant amount of ammunition and suspected marijuana. McCreath was subsequently charged with persons not to possess a firearm, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving without a license.

Reed said Frank Whitlock, 19, of the 1200 block of Main Street in Steelton, was charged with possession of a firearm, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a firearm with altered manufacturer’s number, possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia, and various summary warrants, after a noise complaint was investigated at the Cumberland Court Apartments on Sunday, July 13, at 12:45 a.m. An investigation of the vehicle involved yielded a handgun, ammunition, marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Terrance Slade, 22, of the 2700 block of Booser Avenue in Penbrook, was also charged with obstructing the administration of the law and resisting arrest in connection with the incident.

Reed said Bobby Madden, 35, of the 4000 block of Rainbow Trail in Keezletown, Virginia, was arrested in connection with a shots fired and robbery incident that occurred on Monday, July 14, at 12:09 a.m. in the 2000 block of Berryhill Street. A loaded handgun was recovered from the scene of the incident. Madden has been charged with robbery, aggravated assault, burglary and weapon law violations in connection with the incident.

Reed said Larnell Davis, 20, of the 1200 block of N. 14th Street, was arrested on Tuesday, July 15, around 12:05 p.m. in the first block of N. Cameron Street, after he entered a nearby half-way home with crack cocaine hidden in his buttocks. Davis has been charged with PWI cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and possessing contraband while in a state correctional facility.

Reed said James Hill, 19, of the 1200 block of Kittatinny Street, was charged with PWI cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of firearm, former convict not to possess a firearm and traffic violations, in connection with a traffic stop that occurred on Tuesday, July 15, at 6:13 p.m. in the 1300 block of Swatara Street. After an attempted flee from the traffic stop, Hill was arrested. During a search of his person, a firearm was recovered along with crack cocaine and a large amount of cash.
