BOIL WATER ADVISORY IN EFFECT

Harrisburg, PA – Mayor Stephen R. Reed today reported that a break in a water main in the 1800 block of Boas Street in Harrisburg has resulted in a boil water advisory for that block. All affected customers have received a written notice at their door.

The Mayor said the City Water Bureau discovered a lateral crack in a 4-inch water main that required them to replace that section of the water main.

The boil water advisory is precautionary as there is the possibility of infiltration of external materials into the water line while it was broken.

Affected persons should not drink water without boiling it first, by bringing water to a boil, letting it boil for one minute, and then letting it cool down before being used. Bottled water can also be used.

Reed said if the further testing of the repaired line comes back with negative results – meaning no microbial contamination exists – the boil water advisory could be lifted by early next week.
