HARRISBURG PARKS PARTNERSHIP’S 13th ANNUAL MAYOR’S GOLF OUTING SET

Harrisburg, PA – Mayor Stephen R. Reed today announced that the Harrisburg Parks Partnership’s 13th Annual Mayor’s Golf Outing is set for this Friday, August 9, 2008, at the Sunset Golf Course at 783 South Geyers Church Road near Middletown.

The Mayor’s Golf Outing will raise money for the City of Harrisburg’s Junior Golf Program, one of the largest urban golf programs in the country. Over $165,000 in investments by the United States Golf Association Foundation have been made towards the program to date. However, in order to continue the tradition of instilling golf as a life-long activity for the City’s youth, the Mayor’s Golf Outing will continue to raise additional funds to advance this cause. The program is open to youngsters up to 18 years of age and participants have been as young as five years old.

Mayor Reed indicated that participation levels for participants vary. A $100.00 donation includes green and cart fees, as well as a boxed lunch and a buffet dinner for an individual golfer. Group participation levels include $375.00, $500.00, $750.00, and $1,000.00 entry fees, each of which includes meals, souvenirs, and other golf-related perks.

Mayor Reed said, "Attendance and participation in this important event is reflective of the highest ideals of community service. This support continues to make Harrisburg a better place to live, work, and play."

Mayor Reed also indicated that, in conjunction with the Harrisburg Parks Partnership, the City of Harrisburg has overseen $72 million in park rehabilitation since 1982. "Harrisburg’s park system gives the City’s youth an opportunity to engage in recreational activities such as golf, and will continue to allow the sport’s popularity to grow throughout Harrisburg," said Mayor Reed.

Mayor Reed said that tee times would begin at 7:30 a.m. and run through the early afternoon. Those who choose to participate in the morning round will be accompanied by a junior player from the city Golf Program. A buffet lunch begins at 12:00 p.m. for morning players. For those playing in the afternoon, a boxed lunch will be provided along with a dinner buffet, which starts at 6:30 p.m. Prizes for participants include a Par 3 hole-in-one cash prize of $10,000.
