MAYOR ANNOUNCES SIGNIFICANT GUN, DRUG, AND UNRELATED ARRESTS

Harrisburg, PA – Mayor Stephen R. Reed today announced a series of gun- and drug-related arrests made by Harrisburg Police over the past two weeks which included the seizure of eight more handguns.

Reed said David J. Adams, 23, of the 200 block of 6th Street in Altoona, PA, was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property and carrying a firearm without a license, in connection with a protection from abuse violation that was served on Monday, July 28, at 10:33 p.m. in the 100 block of Mulberry Street. During a search of Adams, a loaded handgun was seized by Harrisburg Police which was later identified as having been stolen. Adams has been remanded to Dauphin County Prison in lieu of posting bail.

Reed said Don A. Jackson, 24, of the 1600 block of Park Street, was arrested and charged with two counts of carrying a firearm without a license, receiving stolen property, recklessly endangering another person, and multiple drug violations, after being arrested for a warrant in connection with a shooting incident that occurred on Wednesday, May 14, 2008, around 6:30 p.m., near Jackson’s residence. Nobody was injured in the incident. Upon searching Jackson, a stolen handgun was seized as well as well as several baggies of marijuana. Jackson has been remanded to Dauphin County Prison in lieu of posting bail.

Reed said Miqual Hodge, 18, of the first block of B Street in Carlisle, PA, was arrested and charged with carrying a firearm without a license, recklessly endangering another person, and receiving stolen property, in connection with a shots fired call that was reported to Harrisburg Police on Saturday, July 26, 2008, around 3:23 p.m. in the area of N. Cameron and Market Streets. Responding officers identified Hodge as having been the suspect in question. A post-arrest search of Hodge yielded a stolen handgun. Hodge has been remanded to Dauphin County Prison in lieu of posting bail.

Reed said Caliph White, 34, of the 300 block of Pine Street in Steelton, was arrested and charged with carrying a firearm without a license, person not to possess or carry a firearm, and possession of marijuana, after patrolling officers spotted him throw a handgun into a grassy area near the 1200 block of Market Street. A search of White also yielded a small amount of marijuana. White has been remanded to Dauphin County Prison in lieu of posting bail.

Reed said Danzarel I. Finley, 26, of the 2600 block of Jefferson Street, and Steffan L. Sapp, of the first block of S. 18th Street, were both arrested after officers spotted the two walking in the area of N. 2nd and Pine Streets and confirmed that Finley had a prior warrant for his arrest. By the time officers approached them, both Finley and Sapp had entered a vehicle. Finley attempted to exit the vehicle and was quickly detained by officers. Sapp also attempted to elude police capture but was soon arrested after admitting to having marijuana on his person. Probation officers assisting in the arrest searched the vehicle and seized a handgun. Finley has subsequently been charged with simple assault and drug violations. Sapp was charged with carrying a firearm without a license and possession of marijuana. Finley has been remanded to Dauphin County Prison and Sapp was released after posting bail.

A 15-year-old male juvenile City resident and a 16-year-old male juvenile City resident were each arrested and charged in connection with a stolen vehicle call that was reported to Harrisburg Police on Wednesday, July 16, 2008, around 5:30 p.m. in the area of S. 13th and Derry Streets. Officers in the area identified the car reported as stolen and initiated a traffic stop. After continuing to drive for a brief period, the car quickly stopped and three occupants each attempted to flee on foot. Two of the three individuals were quickly apprehended. The 15-year-old has been charged with receiving stolen property and carrying a firearm without a license. The 16-year-old has been charged with receiving stolen property and driving without a license. A handgun was recovered from the 15-year-old upon his arrest.

Reed said Justin Taylor, 22, of the 3300 block of N. 4th Street, was arrested and charged with carrying a firearm without a license, person not to possess a firearm, possession of an instrument of a crime, and multiple drug violations, in connection with a an incident that occurred on Saturday, July 19, 2008, around 11:45 p.m. in the are of S. 17th and Berryhill Streets, resulting from a parking violation. Upon questioning Taylor, he was uncooperative, and police asked him to exit the car for additional questioning. After refusing to exit the vehicle, police pulled him from his seat and immediately identified a handgun on the seat. The passenger in the vehicle also indicated he had a firearm on his person. That was also confiscated by police. Taylor has been remanded to Dauphin County Prison in lieu of posting bail.
