INTERNATIONAL HOUSE PRESENTS OPENING CEREMONIES ON HILTON PLAZA

Harrisburg, PA – Mayor Stephen R. Reed and the International House today officially announced that an "Opening Ceremonies" reception will be held from 6-8pm August 8th on the Plaza of the Hilton Harrisburg. Admission is free and open to the public and cultural performances, entertainment, and traditional appetizers will be provided. Featured activities and performances will include the Olympic Flames (Greek dancers) , John Zhong (musician), ASAP Gymnastics performance, the Sunshine Chinese Dance Club, a special torch lighting, and televised coverage of the "Opening Ceremonies."

"This ceremony is an enjoyable and entertaining celebration showcasing local cultural diversity in anticipation of the Summer Olympic Games which begin at 8 PM on August 8, 2008 in Beijing China," noted Mayor Stephen R. Reed. "The spirit of many nations’ coming together in one city for athletic competition is similar to the many international students coming to live at International House under one roof together. Through this event and many others like it we celebrate cultural and international diversity."

Reed said International House, which celebrates its six year anniversary this year, produces monthly international cultural events and programs in partnership with many organizations in the region. International House also provides a comfortable, friendly and supportive collegial residence in renovated row buildings along South Third and Chestnut Streets for international and U.S. students, scholars and interns. This dynamic facility allows the students and interns to meet one another and experience different cultures while enjoying all that the city has to offer (www.ihousehbg.org for more information). Since 2002, International House has welcomed over 700 students from over 70 different countries.

International House is owned and operated by an affiliate of Harristown Development Corporation. For more information please contact Bradley Jones at (717) 255-1041 or bradleyjones@harristown.net.
