HARRISBURG POLICE ANNOUNCE TWO ARRESTS IN UNRELATED INCIDENTS
Harrisburg, PA Mayor Stephen R. Reed today said Harrisburg Police have arrested two individuals in connection with two unrelated incidents.
Reed said Dwayne H. Yates, 24, of the 2500 block of Jefferson Street, was arrested on Wednesday, September 17, 2008, in connection with a shooting incident that occurred on Monday, September 15, 2008, at 8:26 p.m. in the area of N. 6th and Schuylkill Streets.
Reed said responding police attempted to locate a crime scene in the area with negative results during the initial response. Police were also not able to gather any suspect information. The incident was referred to detectives who, after a thorough investigation, determined that Yates committed the shooting.
Police then received a tip yesterday that Yates was in the 2500 block of Jefferson Street. He was located on that block and arrested without incident. He was charged with aggravated assault and carrying a firearm without a license and has been remanded to Dauphin County Prison in lieu of posting bail.
Reed also said Joshua W. Barrick, 27, of the 300 block of Market Street in Duncannon, PA, was arrested on Tuesday, September 16, 2008, around 7:00 p.m. in the 1200 block of Market Street.
Reed said a uniformed K-9 officer was conducting traffic control in the area when a vehicle operated by Barrick ignored the obvious police barricade. The vehicle was stopped and Barrick was cited. It was learned during the traffic stop that Barrick had an active warrant out of Perry County on charges of theft. He was subsequently arrested on that warrant. A search of his vehicle yielded a substantial amount of heroin hidden within a compartment inside the vehicle, as well as drug paraphernalia. The street value of the heroin is estimated at around $3,000.00.
Barrick was charged with possession of drugs with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle. He has been remanded to Dauphin County Prison in lieu of posting bail.
