HARRISBURG POLICE MAKE MULTIPLE ARRESTS IN UNRELATED CRIMES

Harrisburg, PA – Mayor Stephen R. Reed today announced that Harrisburg Police arrested six persons in connection with multiple unrelated crimes. Two of the arrested individuals are 10-year-old juveniles, each of whom was charged with felony crimes in separate incidents.

Reed said Harrisburg Police arrested a 10-year-old male juvenile city resident on Saturday, September 13, 2008, in connection with a burglary incident that occurred on Wednesday, August 13, 2008, around 7:00 p.m. at a residence in the 2100 block of Moore Street.

Reed said witnesses to the incident saw two juveniles exit the rear window of a residence on that block, one of which was carrying a microwave oven. When the witness yelled at them, the juveniles dropped the oven and ran. One witness noticed that one of the juveniles was wearing an ankle monitor. A thorough investigation was conducted and it was learned that the juvenile was involved in the burglary.

The juvenile was located and arrested without incident. He has been charged with burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary, and criminal trespass. He has been remanded to the Schaffner Detention Center.

Reed said another 10-year-old male juvenile city resident was separately arrested on Saturday, September 20, 2008, in connection with an armed robbery incident that occurred that same day at 1:33 p.m. near a residence in the 100 block of Evergreen Street.

Reed said the 9-year-old victim in the incident was in his back yard when the juvenile approached him and asked him to come close to the gate. When the victim approached the juvenile, the juvenile pulled a knife and demanded that the victim give him all he had. A fight ensued and neighbors intervened until police arrived.

The juvenile was arrested at the scene and was charged with armed robbery. He has been remanded to the Schaffner Detention Center.

Reed said John Leon-Olivencia, 18, of the 1200 block of Bailey Street, as well as Jonathan Acevedo, 19, of the 100 block of Lancaster Blvd. in Mechanicsburg and a 17-year-old male juvenile city resident, were each arrested in connection with a burglary that occurred on Tuesday, September 9, 2008, at a residence in the first block of Evergreen Street.

Reed said the three individuals conspired to break into a residence and, once inside, they stole a 50-inch plasma television, a safe, a video game system, and a converter box. Each of the individuals has been charged with burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary. Leon-Olivencia and Acevedo have both been remanded to Dauphin County Prison and the juvenile has been remanded to the Schaffner Detention Center.

Reed said Dashawn Walker, 27, of the 400 block of Muench Street, was arrested in connection with an incident that occurred on Tuesday, September 16, 2008, at 10:08 a.m. in the 300 block of Emerald Street.

Reed said police were dispatched to the area for a burglary in progress. The first officer to arrive identified an individual within the structure. A K9 unit then arrived and, with the help of the K9, the suspect was detained. Copper piping and other metals were found stacked by the basement door.

Walker has been charged with criminal mischief and defiant trespass. He was released from Dauphin County Prison after posting bail.
