HARRISBURG POLICE ANNOUNCE MULTIPLE GUN, DRUG, AND OTHER ARRESTS

Harrisburg, PA – Mayor Stephen R. Reed today said that Harrisburg Police have arrested six individuals in connection with six unrelated crimes and confiscated two firearms.

Reed said Jose Luis Lovera-Calderon, 23, of the first row of the M.W. Smith Homes complex, was arrested on Tuesday, September 23, at 1:06 a.m. in connection with a robbery that occurred at a gas station on the 2000 block of N. 7th Street.

Reed said units were dispatched to the area after being notified that a male had entered the store earlier that night with a shirt covering his face and a gun in his hand. The male pointed the gun at several victims before approaching the counter and demanding money. The male and an accomplice then fled in a vehicle whose license plate was obtained by one of the victims. Police located the vehicle just after midnight and subsequently found Lovera-Calderon, who was identified as the perpetrator by several of the victims. The money was recovered along with over a dozen baggies of cocaine.

Lovera-Calderon was arrested and charged with two counts of robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, possession with intent to sell cocaine, and carrying a firearm without a license. He was remanded to Dauphin County Prison in lieu of posting bail.

Reed said John Sutton, 60, of the 2700 block of N. 6th Street, was arrested on Monday, September 22, 2008, at 4:07 a.m. in connection with a shooting that occurred on that same block.

Reed said the victim, a female, had driven to the location to retrieve her son’s vehicle. When she arrived in the area, the accused exited a nearby residence and shot twice at her vehicle. She immediately drove away and called the police. A resident at the home where police believed the shots came from consented to a search and, as police were searching the residence, the accused returned home in his vehicle. He was subsequently arrested. A search warrant was later executed on the vehicle and the handgun used in the shooting was recovered.

Sutton has been charged with aggravated assault and recklessly endangering another person. He was released from police custody after posting bail.

Reed said Eric Everson, 23, of the 2400 block of N. 4th Street, was arrested on Tuesday, September 16, 2008, in connection with a domestic incident that occurred that same day in the 200 block of Reily Street.

Reed said Everson forced his way into the victim’s residence on that block. When the victim living at the residence realized what was happening, she hid in a closet out of fear. Everson located her, threw her onto a nearby couch, and began strangling her as her 9-year-old son was nearby. The victim broke free and grabbed a steak knife from the kitchen, but Everson knocked the knife away and threatened to kill her. He then left the apartment.

An investigation ensued by responding officers and Everson was arrested later that day. He was charged with two counts each of aggravated assault and recklessly endangering another person, as well as one count each of terroristic threats, endangering the welfare of a child, and attempted homicide. He was remanded to the Dauphin County Prison.

Reed said Jose Ferrer-Crespo, 22, of the 5 Row Hall Manor, was arrested on Wednesday, September 24, 2008, in connection with a robbery that occurred on Wednesday, September 17, 2008, at 11:05 p.m. in the 1300 block of Derry Street.

Reed said Ferrer-Crespo approached a victim, demanded money, and immediately began attacking the victim. Ferrer-Crespo used a knife during the attack and cut and stabbed the victim multiple during the altercation. Ferrer-Crespo then fled the area.

An investigation ensued and police subsequently arrested Ferrer-Crespo and charged him with attempted homicide and robbery. He has been remanded to Dauphin County Prison in lieu of posting bail.

Reed said Tysean Bryant, 19, of the 1400 block of Liberty Street, was arrested on Friday, September 19, 2008, around 8:30 p.m. in connection with a robbery that occurred that day in the area of N. 16th and Walnut Streets. Reed said Bryant robbed the victim at gunpoint in the area and stole a gold necklace from her. He was identified and arrested a short time later. A search of Bryant’s person yielded a plastic bag filled with cocaine.

Reed said Bryant has been charged with robbery and multiple drug violations and has been remanded to Dauphin County Prison in lieu of posting bail.

Reed said Richard Motes, 23, of the 200 block of N. 15th Street, was arrested on Thursday, September 25, 2008, after an officer identified him driving a vehicle and was aware that he had a suspended license. A traffic stop was initiated and Motes was arrested on several outstanding warrants. A later search of the vehicle yielded illegal drugs and a firearm.

Motes was subsequently charged with carrying a firearm without a license, person not to possess a firearm, multiple drug violations, and driving with a suspended license. He was remanded to Dauphin County Prison.

Reed also said Harrisburg Police are searching for additional information in connection with an armed robbery that occurred on the evening of Tuesday, September 23, 2008, in the 1500 block of N. Front Street.
