POLICE INVESTIGATE TWO OVERNIGHT SHOOTINGS, CAR JACKING INCIDENT; ONE ARRESTED

Harrisburg, PA – Mayor Stephen R. Reed today said that Harrisburg Police are investigating two overnight shootings as well as the robbery of a motor vehicle. One arrest has been made in connection with one of the shootings.

Reed said Harrisburg Police were dispatched to the 1700 block of North Street around 4:26 p.m. for a report of a male that had been shot. Arriving officers located the victim, a 31-year-old male city resident, who had been shot once in the shoulder area. LifeTeam emergency services arrived within minutes and transported the victim to a local hospital with serious injuries.

An investigation into the incident indicated that the victim was in the area of N. 4th and Harris Streets when he was approached by Johnny L. Lowry, 18, of the 3200 block of Hoffman Street. A verbal altercation ensued which turned physical. As the victim attempted to leave the area in his vehicle, Lowry brandished a handgun and fired at the victim, striking him once.

Reed said Lowry was arrested after further investigation and, when interviewed by detectives, admitted to shooting the victim. Lowry was charged with criminal attempt homicide, aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person, criminal mischief and carrying a firearm without a license. He has been remanded to Dauphin County Prison.

Reed said Harrisburg Police were separately dispatched to the area of N. 6th and Schuylkill Streets around 8:26 p.m. for a report of a male that had been shot. Arriving officers located the victim, a 49-year-old male city resident, who had been shot once in the leg. LifeTeam emergency services transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries. Reed said police are actively investigating the incident, but said they have no suspects at this time.

Reed also said that police were dispatched to the 700 block of S. 21st Street around 9:40 p.m. for a report of a robbery of a motor vehicle.

Reed said the two victims, male and a female, were walking towards the female’s vehicle when two black males approached them. One of the males demanded the keys to the vehicle, to which the female quickly complied. Both of the victims indicate that one of the males had a gun in his hands during the robbery. The two male suspects quickly fled in the vehicle and the victims called the police.

Reed said the vehicle in question was recovered by police overnight. He said police are currently searching for two black males, each of which was wearing a blue and white bandanna, dark colored long sleeve shirts and shorts.

Anyone with information on any of these overnight incidents is urged to confidentially call Harrisburg Police at (717) 255-3131.
