ALL CITY PHONE LINES DOWN; PERSONS WITH ACTUAL EMERGENCIES URGED TO CALL 911

Harrisburg, PA – Mayor Stephen R. Reed this afternoon said that an unidentified telecommunications problem is currently causing all external calls made to any of the city’s departmental phone lines to come through as a busy signal.

Reed said city technicians are currently working to locate and fix the problem. He said internal extensions within the City Government Center are functioning properly and said that city employees can dial out with no problems. He said the problem is limited to external callers dialing in to the city.

Reed said the phone problem includes the city’s non-emergency police and fire dispatch center phone line (255-3131). He said dispatchers are able to make calls and dispatch officers but are not receiving calls. Reed said that any resident with a police or fire emergency is urged to dial 911 rather than trying to call the city dispatch line. He said 911 is working properly.

Reed said an update will be given as soon as the city’s incoming phone lines are up and functioning.
