INTERIM PRINCIPAL AT JOHN HARRIS CAMPUS NAMED

Harrisburg, PA – Mayor Stephen R. Reed today announced that Roma J. Benjamin, who has been serving as principal at the Lincoln School in the Harrisburg School District, is now appointed to serve as the Interim Principal at the John Harris Campus of Harrisburg High School.

She replaces the late Evangelene Kimber, who passed away two weeks ago unexpectedly. Ms. Benjamin will begin her duties tomorrow (Oct. 8) and serve out the remainder of the school year in the post.

Marcia M. Magill, the associate principal for curriculum and instruction for the campus, who has been temporarily filling in as acting principal the past two weeks, will resume her associate principal post.

Reed said the district will conduct a national recruitment effort over the coming months to secure applicants to fill the campus principalship on a permanent basis with a starting date of next summer.

Ms. Benjamin, who is presently studying for her doctoral degree, attained her Master’s Degree in Public School Administration and Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Oral Roberts University. She began her service with the Harrisburg School District in the Spring of 2004 as the principal of the Alternative Education Program Grade School Level after having served in various administrative and instructional posts in Tulsa, Oklahoma and elsewhere in Pennsylvania. She has been the Lincoln School principal since 2006.

She was selected from amongst seven applicants within the district who were willing to serve in the interim capacity for the school year.
